Congleton countryside

Signs of spring around here at last - farmers preparing the fields for sowing, flowers appearing and trees are budding. Our rowan tree is now in bud, just.

White Nancy, Bollington

Once an open-fronted shelter with seating, White Nancy was bricked up a long time back and has recently been painted with graffiti-proof paint. Which is kind of sad really, as it looked so nice painted up for festivals.
The views from the ridge are amazing, across the Cheshire Plain and to Jodrell Bank, Alderley Edge, even Beeston, the north Manchester moors and St Helen's glass on a clear day.

March of the Swans, Congleton

Why fly when you can waddle?

Swans amble slowly up from a small pool on the outskirts of Congleton; they are sharing the field with Canada Geese.

Lantern Parade, Chester - 12 Dec 08

"Something Wishful" was the culmination of Cheshire's Year of Gardens and involved a number of schools participating in a lantern parade. The lanterns were launched and floated out onto the River Dee, to the sounds of wishful music, dancers on swan boats, acrobatics and fireworks.
